Havdalah 2009

Snip-SupremeCourt1The EmptyNesters will be hosting a special dinner, open house, and current events program for current and potential new EmptyNesters.

Saturday  August 1
6:30PM at JBSC in Potomac

We will start this EmptyNester Open House with a special Havdalah service led by Rabbi Fabricant and Cantor Bortnick. The service will be followed by our Greek dinner and then our Supreme Court discussion.

Our post-dinner program will focus on the Supreme Court. John Nannes, past President of WHC and trustee of the Supreme Court Historical Society, will introduce our speaker, Professor Mel Urofsky (Ph.D., Columbia University; J.D., University of Virginia). Mel will lead us through a discussion of the recent and future issues involving the Supreme Court followed by a Q&A period. Given the new Obama administration and the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor, this program will be very timely and informative.

If you haven't been to an EmptyNester event, this would be a perfect time. We enjoy theater, current events, politics, books, travel and a host of other things. As you can see below, our rules for membership are quite broad...maybe even undefined...so most everybody can be an EmptyNester. We'd love to meet you so please join us...it'll be a great evening together.

RSVP by July 24

Dinner will be Greek and catered by a local restaurant. It will be delicious! To RSVP, please send your check (made out to WHC) for $18 per person to:

Who Can Be an EmptyNester?

Our membership requirements are somewhat obscure but...

Most members are between 50 and 70+ but age is a self-limiting condition that we tend to ignore. You might think it's necessary to have an empty nest...but you'd be wrong! Some of our members are home alone while others have children at home and still others experience the joys of children at home from time to time. And if you've never had children, you've always had that empty nest...so you're OK too.

...and that's who can be an EmptyNester!
