Welcome to the Hazy, Lazy Days of Summer... An Invitation from the WHC EmptyNesters
It's time for our second annual Summertime EmptyNester Havdalah program. If you remember at our summer Havdalah last year, we focused on the Supreme Court and Sonia Sotomayor, the new nominee. We had a huge turnout with 145 EmptyNe sters attending. It was wonderful.
This year, we are focusing on healthcare...something important to everybody.
Saturday August 7 6-9pm at Temple
We will gather at 6-6:30pm at the Temple on Macomb Street, have a glass of wine, and do a little schmoozing! Our Havdalah service with Cantor Manevich will start around 6:30pm followed by our catered BBQ dinner. Jonathan Westin, our speaker, will start around 8pm and will have time for some Q&A. Tonight's special topic is healthcare...Reading the Tea Leaves: The Future of Health & Long-Term Care in the Jewish Community.
If you think that healthcare is "done and settled"...think again. Parts of the new healthcare bill are beginning to roll-out and more will be coming soon.
With the November election, you can be sure that healthcare will be a topic of conversation. How will the new bill be implemented and at what cost for whom? Will it be repealed...and, if so, then what? What's the impact of all this on the Jewish community?
Above all, what does the new healthcare bill mean for you...now and in the future? How will Medicare change? How about Medicaid, home healthcare, and long-term care?
If any of these questions have popped into your head in recent weeks, then you need to be at our WHC EmptyNester Summer Special - Havdalah and BBQ dinner with a special speaker...fellow congregant, Jonathan Westin.
Jon's areas of expertise are legislative strategy and advocacy related to health delivery, long-term care, and aging. This includes key programs such as Medicaid and Medicare which fund much of the care delivered by Jewish communal providers. In addition, Jon concentrates on the intersection of private/public initiatives that will prepare the nation for the health needs of the Baby Boom generation, the first wave of which turns 65 in January, 2011.
He has focused on ensuring that vital funding streams are protected for Jewish aging facilities, hospitals, and other community-based providers. Jon has played an integral role in securing reimbursement rates for home health and skilled nursing services for those needing long-term care services. In addition, he has worked tirelessly to ensure that the Medicaid program continues to adequately serve the most vulnerable regardless of age or disability.
Please join us. RSVP today.
