Skydiving with Burt!

To celebrate his 75th birthday, EmptyNester Burt Emmer wanted to do something he had never done. So, last October 22nd he jumped out of a plane traveling at a height of 14,000-feet over Orange County, Virginia.
 
He was so exhilarated with the experience, that he has agreed to lead our first annual EmptyNester Skydive next April 1.
 
Because of the anticipated number of participants, we are sorry to limit this first jump to men and women over the age of 70.

Shirei Shabbat Ushers Needed

In January, the EmptyNesters return to ushering at the musical Shirei Shabbat Services on the last Friday evening of each month. It's a lovely way to serve WHC while saying hello to your fellow congregants. The next Shirei Shabbats are:

Nominating Committee Seeks Board Candidates

 WHC has an unusually rich reservoir of talent. As we work to formulate the slate, the Committee will be guided by a desire to bring to the Board a balance of skills, resources, ages, and genders, and also to achieve an appropriate blend of experienced and new leadership.

The Nominating Committee seeks dedicated individuals with a love for Judaism, our community, and Washington Hebrew Congregation. As the governing body of the Temple, the Board of Directors includes members with a wide variety of attributes including: creativity, a desire to work on behalf of WHC, business background, not-for-profit experience, and a commitment to ensure the Temple provides a spiritual home for the membership. 

Suggestions for the Board nominees are welcome. Send the names by Monday, January 23, to Lauren Racoosin, Chair of the Nominating Committee, or via email to: Board Nominees.

The election will be held at the 160th Annual Meeting of the Congregation on June 4, 2012.

The EmptyNesters auxiliary was formed over 15 years ago by Rabbi Weinberg and a group of wonderfully energetic people who saw the need for creating an extended family at WHC for members like us. We are a group — made up of couples and singles — who enjoy each other's company and a wide variety of activities.

Today's EmptyNesters are a group of  wonderfully energetic people who enjoy each  other’s company, participating in a variety of events including many WHC activities, and meeting like-minded EmptyNesters.
